What is Primary Care?
Primary care is the total care of a person. Primary Care is a large facet of general medicine that encompasses much more than just disease. Some of the different aspects of primary care include; preventive health screening, patient education, diagnosis of common medical diseases and appropriate treatment plans that are tailored to the individual patient. While many specialists focus on a specific area of concern, eMed Primary Care providers are trained to see the patient as a whole and not just body parts. For eMed Primary Care, good health is much more than just the absence of disease. It encompasses all aspects of the patients’ physical and emotional well being and it attempts to achieve this state of health through sound evidence based medicine, patient education, and a team work approach to overall general health.
While Primary Care encompasses a multitude of health issues, for which the majority will be addressed at Emed Primary Care, our staff have been trained to excel in the most common day to day chronic health issues a few of which include; HBP, Heart disease, high cholesterol, diabetes, kidney disease, thyroid, neurologic disease, pulmonary disease including COPD, and liver disease. Emed will also excel at preventive health care to help reduce the patient’s amount of risk factors for disease which include tobacco abuse, a sedentary lifestyle, alcohol abuse, and obesity.
What is Urgent Care?
Urgent Care began out of a necessity. Emergency Rooms are more crowded now than ever before and the number of Primary Care Providers, (PCPs) has decreased for a myriad of reasons. Urgent Care serves as a middle ground between the Emergency Room for life threatening episodes, and the PCP which treats chronic, on-going, non-episodic issues. Urgent Care allows for a quick and thorough review of the bodies systems and the opportunity to address the episode. A person cutting a bagel on a weekend morning could cut a finger. The PCP office is closed. The ER is always open but it is filled with patients already. An Urgent Care location can address the laceration quickly and let you get on with your day.
The other key to Urgent Care is the pricing. Many locations accept insurance or cash payments. If you don’t have insurance, an ER visit could cost $500 or more. An urgent care visit could be as little as $80.
When should I go to the doctor?
We all get sick. Anytime you feel something is wrong, different than normal, or that you don’t feel “right,” perhaps you are not. A doctor should always be consulted when you do not feel well and you are worried about long term consequences from your current symptoms.
Do you do DOT physicals?
Yes. EMed performs basic DOT physicals without audiometry.
Can I be seen if I don’t have insurance?
Yes. We accept cash, checks or credit cards for payment. Our pricing is on our website and can be tailored to meet the needs of the patient. We want you to know BEFORE you check in, what the costs will be.
Are you open weekends?
Do you have Xray services on site?
Yes. We have our own X-ray machine and Licensed Radiation Technicians available at all hours to take X-rays needed to diagnose your concern.
Do you sell prescription medication?
Yes. We prescribe all medications needed for a patient’s care. We have our own in-house formulary that allows us to provide generic medications to our patients at very reasonable prices. We offer this cash service to all patients in need of prescription that have been seen by the eMed Primary Care providers.
What is the eMed policy for prescribing narcotics?
EMed will only prescribe narcotics for patients seen by the doctor that are deemed in need of the medication. It is beyond the scope of eMed to prescribe narcotics for chronic medical issues. EMed works with local pain management providers that you can be referred to for appropriate care.
I am from out of town and don’t have my medical records. Can you help me?
Yes. EMed can service any patient, with or without medical records. EMed utilizes the latest in Electronic Medical Records but there are still some medical facilities using only paper charts. Any information that eMed obtains will be saved electronically and be accessed on the website through the patient portal. The information can also be sent to your PCP for his or her review.
How much is my co-pay?
Your co-pay may differ on the type of care you need. Some insurance companies have a different co-pay amount for an Urgent Care visit vs. a Primary Care Visit. Each insurance payer is different. The co-pay amount may be on your insurance card or it may have to be looked up. We will be happy to check your co-pay amount at the time of check in.
If I can’t be treated, will I be charged for a visit?
There could be a time when you are in with the doctor and the decision is made for you to be moved to the nearest hospital emergency room. If this happens, and it is a rare occurrence, the level 1 visit will be charged to your insurance or you will be expected to pay the self pay level 1 amount.
